Kalmanovich is a ready-to-wear label by Julia Kalmanovich born out of Moscow in 2009. Fundamentally driven by what she sees on the street, the collection is a celebration of street style movements, pairing high and low with old and new to create seamlessly elegant and functional paradoxes.
Each collection is a transformation from its precedent, using luxurious fabrics to create statement pieces that are bold and romantic. Julia stays loyal to her amorous aesthetic by always incorporating flowing, fanciful styles. Never hesitant to delve into new genres with an uncontrived approach, each season is both an evolution and exploration.
Born and raised in Moscow, Julia's love for fashion began at an early age, spending much of her time in the theatre her parents owned. She witnessed step-by-step and became fascinated by how productions came together through set and particularly costume design.
With basic understanding of a sewing machine, Julia experimented with alterations and designing as a hobby throughout school. She later obtained a Business degree with a concentration in Finance, after which she decided to pursue a fashion education seriously. Studying under renowned costume designer Slava Zaitsev, known as the patriarch of Russian fashion, Julia learned elaborate dressmaking disciplines.
The Kalmanovich woman is a hopeless romantic who dresses to please herself. She is a passionate world traveler who observes her surroundings with a meticulous curiosity. She understands that comfort is a vital component to making a bold statement and always enjoys taking risks.
